For the annual NASCAR Throwback race weekend at Darlington Raceway this year, Hendrick Motorsports and Chase Elliott are running a special paint scheme on the No. 9 UniFirst Chevrolet ZL1 that honors Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s 2014 Daytona 500 win in the No. 88 National Guard Chevrolet. In addition, Elliott will also don a replica-designed driver suit and Earnhardt’s signature skeleton gloves.
On Thursday, May 9, the Chase Elliott Foundation, in partnership with the NASCAR Foundation, will launch an online auction of the authentic, race-worn driver gloves, autographed by both Earnhardt, a 15-time NASCAR Cup Series Most Popular Driver, and Elliott, a six-time Most Popular Driver. Also included in the auction package is a VIP Race Experience for the fall 2024 Darlington NASCAR Cup Series race. In gratitude for their years of participation in NASCAR, the Chase Elliott Foundation will donate proceeds from the auction to the National Guard Relief Foundation. No. 9 primary car sponsor UniFirst has generously pledged to match the donation as well.
“The National Guard Relief Foundation sincerely appreciates the support of the Chase Elliott Foundation and their sponsor UniFirst,” said Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Karen Craig, Chairman of the Board. “Each day, across the 54 States and territories, National Guard members are working hard to support their communities and protect our Nation. Our Foundation is dedicated to providing emergency assistance to the men and women of the National Guard and their families when they are affected by a personal hardship, financial emergency, or natural disaster. The funds donated by Chase and Unifirst will go a long way towards meeting our mission and helping National Guard families when they need it most.”
The National Guard Relief Foundation (“NGRF”) serves as a nationwide resource providing emergency financial assistance to the men and women of the National Guard and their families. NGRF has been taking care of these Soldiers and Airmen since its origination in 1992 and has provided over $4M in assistance since 2004. Assistance in the form of Grants and Interest-Free Loans can be provided to currently serving, retired and former National Guard members of all ranks who have experienced a financial emergency related to events such a mobilization, natural disaster, fire/flood, catastrophic losses, or other personal hardships. Funds are provided to help with basic necessities such as rent/mortgage payments, utilities, groceries, transportation, as well as shelter due to unexpected loss of residence and funeral expenses.
While the National Guard takes care of the citizens of America, the NGRF takes care of our National Guard men and women, and their families. The Chase Elliott Foundation is grateful for their service.
The auction will go live at on Thursday, May 9, on eBay (link). Please follow this link after that time for more information and to place your bid.
