A DISAPPOINTING TURN OF EVENTS

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. (June 21, 2010) – Chase Elliott’s week of racing could best be described by the lyrics of an old John Denver song: “Some days are diamonds (Some days are stone).” The diamond days were earlier in the week when he raced door-to-door with one of NASCAR’s hottest drivers, Kyle Busch at Berlin, Mi., winning the first half of a double header and finishing second to Busch in the nightcap. The stone days came at, of all places, his home track – Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Ga. Elliott qualified on the pole for Saturday’s Super Late Model event then fell victim to one of the most common pitfalls of short track racers – track officials determined that the fuel in his tank wasn’t the track’s preferred brand. Four other drivers in the slim 10-driver field had the same problem, and that put them at the back for the start of the feature. That turned out to be Elliott’s undoing, as one of the drivers who benefited from the track’s fuel enforcement clipped Elliott’s Aaron’s Dream Machine on the start, sending him into the retaining wall and out of the race before a single lap was recorded on the scoreboard. “It’s a shame, that’s all”, said Elliott of the evening’s turn of events. Elliott’s father and team owner Bill Elliott pointed out that the team’s VP Racing Fuel didn’t offer any octane advantage; it just didn’t meet the track’s enforcement of the rules. “Most race tracks that have chosen a particular brand of fuel may require you to buy a certain amount of gallons of that particular fuel during their event but none until GMP have required us to race with their choice of fuel in our cars,” Elliott said, pointing out that he chose VP Racing Fuel because the company is one of Elliott’s Driver Development team product sponsors. The Elliott’s have displayed the VP Racing fuels decals on their cars for the last two years, and Bill Elliott drove the VP Racing Fuel-sponsored Late Model dirt car in last week’s Prelude to the Dream at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. The Bill Elliott Driver Development team remains focused on its season’s objectives heading to Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Fla., and Mobile [Ala.] International Speedway for the Blizzard and Miller Lite series races this weekend. “You’re going to have racing incidents on the track that just can’t be helped, that’s just racing,” Chase Elliott said. “So we’ll get to work first thing on repairing the damage and get ready for Pensacola this Friday.” ELLIOTT 2010 RACE-BY-RACE RESULTS DATE TRACK EVENT (SERIES) QUAL START FINISH 1/31 Lanier National Speedway SpeedFest 250 (CRA) 7 7 6 3/7 South Alabama Speedway The Rattler 250 (CRA) 5 5 4 3/13 Gresham Motorsports Park Season Opener(CRA 125) 5 5 2 3/20 Montgomery Motor Speedway Show Me The Money-125 2 9 2 3/27 New Smyrna Speedway Season Opener (Sunoco Nat.
